KINTAMPO ACCIDENT KILLS A LOT OF PASSENGERS

About 70 passengers on board two buses that collided head-on around 2am today, Friday March 22, 2019 on the Tamale-Kintampo Highway have died instantly. The accident occurred at Ampomakrom, a village near Kintampo in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region, along the main Kintampo-Tamale Highway.

It has been confirmed that a VVIP Kia bus with registration number GT 3915 -17 from Garu in the Upper East Region heading towards Kumasi collided with a Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5694 -18 from Accra which was heading towards Bolgantaga also in the Upper East Region.

The cause of the collision is not known yet but it is believed that one of the drivers might have been dozing off and run into the lane of the other bus from the opposite direction. All passengers onboard the Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5694 – 18 are reported dead because the bus caught fire and burnt beyond recognition when it collided with the other bus.

6e7dd9ca-77a7-4df4-989f-c95fe13dfaf0According to the Fire Commander of Kintampo Municipal (DO3) Mr. Ankomah Twene who confirmed the unfortunate incident to MyNewsGh.com, it took his men close to 30 minutes to douse the fire on the bus before they could cut and take out the dead bodies. The other bus, branded VVIP and painted red also veered into a ditch after the collision with some few survivors.

The exact number of dead passengers is not yet known but Kintampo’s Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyawu, told Joy News’ Bono East Region Correspondent, Anas Sabbit that preliminary investigations reveals that each bus had over 50 passengers on board.

The survivors have been transported to the Jema Government Hospital, Kintampo Government Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital for medical attention.
