WhatsApp, Facebook, And Instagram Have Gone Down Globally

Have you tried sending WhatsApp message or make a call and it doesn’t go through? If you have then I am sure you tried checking your internet connectivity, but don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your phone.

Millions across the globe are also unable to send or receive texts, make voice and video calls on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram because these social media platforms have all gone down in a major outage globally.

The three apps – which are all owned by Facebook, and run on shared infrastructure – stopped working around 3:00PM (GMT). Other related products, such as Facebook Messenger and Workplace, have also stopped working.

Although the cause of the outage is not yet known, it is believed to have a connection with a whistleblower that went on US television to reveal her identity after she leaked a trove of documents to authorities alleging the social media giant knew its products were fueling hate and harming children’s mental health.

Frances Haugen, a 37-year-old data scientist from Iowa, has worked for companies including Google and Pinterest — but said in an interview with CBS news show “60 Minutes” that Facebook was “substantially worse” than anything she had seen before.

The world’s largest social media platform has been embroiled in a firestorm brought about by Haugen, with US lawmakers and The Wall Street Journal detailing how Facebook knew its products, including Instagram, were harming young girls, especially around body image.

The three social media platforms have however come out to acknowledge the outage and also assure users to get the platforms working soon.

Whiles waiting for that, you might consider making use of other social media platforms like Twitter, Hangouts, Viber, Skype, etc.
