REDUCTION OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES BY 15.3%

The Road Transport Operators have resolved to reduce public transport fares by 15.3 percent following the reduction in fuel prices.

The General public may recall that on Saturday, October 29, 2022, a 19 percent increment in public transport fares took effect after intense negotiations with stakeholders as the prices of petroleum products were increased.

According to the road transport Operators, with the recent reductions in the price of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with the Administrative Instrument.

Following a series of negotiation meetings with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction and in consideration of the plight of Drivers, Commuters, and the General Public, the Road Transport Operators have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3 percent.

The new fare is effective from Monday, December 19, 2022, and the fare covers Shared Taxis, Intra-City (Trotro), Intercity (Long distance), and Haulage.

The Road Transport Operators further requested all commercial transport operators to comply with the new fares and post the same at their various loading terminals.
