QUEEN ELIZABETH II PASSES AWAY AT 96

The ruler and head of the United Kingdom and the other 14 commonwealth realms took her last breath this afternoon, September 8, 2022 at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The information was relayed by the Buckingham Palace, according to Independent.co.uk. The palace said, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,”.

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. According to Sky Sports, in a radio address in 1947 on her 21st birthday, the Queen said: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

The then Princess Elizabeth, became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25, when her father, King George VI, died; her coronation took place 16 months later at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen’s reign saw 15 different prime ministers, from Sir Winston Churchill to Liz Truss. She was also more widely travelled than any other international leaders and broke her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria’s record of being the world’s oldest head of state in 2015.

As head of state, Queen Elizabeth II was widely regarded as a symbol of stability, working tirelessly to make sure the monarchy remained relevant during a period of immense social, technological, and economic change.

After her death, the Queen’s eldest son and heir, Charles, the former Prince of Wales, has automatically become the King of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms.

Many prominent people have paid their tributes to the Queen. Sir John Major choked back the tears as he paid tribute to the Queen on BBC saying “It is heartbreaking news – it’s news that one day we knew we’d have but we always hoped it would be delayed,”. He also said that he think there will be many tears shed tonight and over the next few days over the great loss.

To pay respect or tribute to the late Queen, flags on European Union buildings in Brussels were lowered to half-mast.Roads around Buckingham Palace in London were also closed as thousands of mourners swarmed the area. Black cabs also lined up silently on The Mall in front of the palace to pay their respects.
